These TABLETS are grids of truncated pyramids with colored facets. They are based upon a portion of a very complicated (though orderly) Magickal system that was revealed to John Dee and Edward Kelley in the years 1582 to 1587. This system remained mostly obscure and unused until the end of the 19th Century when it was revived and put into use by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Further clarity was added to the system and its uses by Aleister Crowley in the early 20th Century. I encountered the system and basic versions of the tablets first in my studies with legendary Los Angeles Magus, Poke Runyon and then at Lon Milo DuQuette’s famed “Monday Night Magick” classes where I first saw the tablets rendered as real three dimensional pyramids. The colors of these tablets are based upon research by Sandra Tabatha Cicero into the work of HOGD co-founder William Wynn Wescott, who extensively developed the theory of color permutations of the tablets.

The tablets might be simply described as a sort of index of Angelic hierarchies. As such, they can be employed in ritual practice (as described in Crowley’s “Liber Chanokh”).

Every tablet seen in these photographs follows the rules of the system. An experienced Enochian Magician/Scholar would easily recognize the color correspondences used and presumably find them useful and enlightening.

These are not works of my imagination. I am following a set of rules. However, these rules provide for a vast number of possible permutations.

While they may be seen as abstract paintings, they are not.
